Founded in 2017, the mission of the US National Committee of IUCN is to encourage and support co-operation among IUCN members in the US, facilitating their influence and impact on nature conservation, and to contribute effectively to the program and governance of IUCN.

This mission is in service of our vision of “A robust and engaged IUCN US membership that contributes to IUCN’s vision of ‘A just world that values and conserves nature.”

As of 2020, the IUCN constituency in the US is a diverse network comprised of 136 IUCN government, non-government, and Indigenous Peoples’ Organization members, and affiliate organizations. Hundreds of IUCN Commission experts are also based in the US.

The US is part of the IUCN’s North America and Caribbean statutory region, along with Canada and Caribbean nations.

IUCN’s Regional Office and Secretariat based in Washington, DC works with members, global institutions, and the US donor community to further conservation worldwide.
