The Earth Law Center is a non-profit organization that champions Earth-centered laws and community-led movements that respect and protect all life on the planet. They believe that Earth law is the idea that ecosystems have the right to exist, thrive, and evolve—and that Nature should be able to defend its rights in court, just like people can.

The IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) is a global environmental network with more than 16,000 experts and 1,300 member organizations. The IUCN is a leading authority on the status of the natural world and the measures needed to safeguard it.

The Earth Law Center and the IUCN have a long-standing relationship. The ELC has been working with the IUCN to advocate for the Rights of Nature since 2012. In 2012, the IUCN World Conservation Congress passed a resolution that recognizes Nature’s rights. The ELC played a key role in getting this resolution passed.

The ELC and the IUCN continue to work together to advance the Rights of Nature. In 2019, the ELC partnered with the IUCN to host an annual series of courses on ecological law and governance. The ELC also works with the IUCN to develop and implement Earth law policies and projects.

The Earth Law Center and the IUCN share a common vision for a world in which humans and Nature flourish together. They believe that Earth law is essential for achieving this vision. By working together, they are helping to create a more just and sustainable future for all.
