We are excited to announce the establishment of a new Specialist Group within WCPA: the Protected Planet Specialist Group. We are reaching out to identify WCPA members interested in joining the group, and to seek expressions of interest in co-chairing the group alongside Heather Bingham (UNEP-WCMC).
Protected Planet is a joint product of UNEP and IUCN, managed by UNEP-WCMC, which provides data and indicators relating to protected and conserved areas. The Protected Planet Specialist Group will convene and coordinate WCPA members with expertise and an interest in Protected Planet and related tools, data and indicators. It will work closely with other WCPA groups, including the Specialist Groups on other effective area-based conservation measures (OECMs), privately protected areas and nature stewardship, and protected area management effectiveness, and with UNEP-WCMC. The primary objective of the group is to support the Protected Planet Initiative by convening experts who can build knowledge and capacity among Protected Planet data providers and data users.

If you are also interested in co-chairing the group (a voluntary position), please emailheather.bingham@unep-wcmc.org and wcpa.madhurao@gmail.com, with a brief Expression of Interest (500 words max.) providing information on your background experience and your interest in the Specialist Group’s objectives.
