CALIFORNIA NATURAL RESOURCES AGENCY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

The California Natural Resources Agency (CNRA) oversees the state’s efforts to protect, restore, and expand access to California’s natural and cultural resources. The agency coordinates more than two dozen departments, conservancies, and commissions — including Cal Fire, the Department of Parks and Recreation, the Department of Fish and Wildlife, the Coastal Commission, and the State Water Resources Control Board — and is led by the Governor’s Secretary for Natural Resources.

CNRA’s current portfolio is organized around four key priorities: Outdoors For All (expanding equitable access to nature), Protecting Biodiversity (including the state’s 30×30 commitment and the new California Biodiversity Collaborative), Building Climate Resilience (climate adaptation, wildfire response, and coastal protection), and Expanding Nature-Based Solutions (wetlands restoration, urban greening, and Salton Sea restoration). Following the passage of Proposition 4 in 2024, the agency is also administering a major new climate bond that directs billions toward safe drinking water, drought, and forest health.

The agency is headquartered in Sacramento and works in close partnership with Tribal Nations, including a landmark policy expanding Tribal co-stewardship to at least 7.5 million acres of California lands and waters.
