Families in Nature

Families in Nature (FIN) is a Texas-based nonprofit whose mission is to inspire all families to fall in love with nature and foster the next generation of conservationists. Founded to address what it describes as the growing disconnect between children and the outdoors, FIN works to make nature accessible, welcoming, and meaningful for families of every background.

FIN runs a portfolio of programs that meet families and educators where they are: The Ecologist School (free, hands-on science lessons), the Guide Development Program (training certified nature guides and supporting outdoor classrooms), the Place-based Environmental Education Project (PEEP, which builds customized programs for schools, parks, and nature centers), Nature Rx (prescribing time outdoors for physical and mental health), Nature Communities (helping families and schools start their own nature groups), and a gear-lending library that removes cost as a barrier to participation. The organization also leads immersive travel through Hope NaturE and runs an annual Campus Campout Program.

Headquartered in Texas, FIN partners with parks, preserves, school districts, and disability-advocacy groups — including a long-running collaboration with the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impairment — to design outdoor experiences that are genuinely inclusive.
