International Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies

The International Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (IAFWA) — commonly known as the Association of Fish & Wildlife Agencies (AFWA) — represents the collective voice of state, provincial, and territorial fish and wildlife agencies across North America. For more than 100 years, AFWA’s member agencies have been the public’s primary stewards of vital wildlife resources, and AFWA lends that collective voice to inform national and international policy on fish, wildlife, and habitat conservation.

AFWA’s work spans the full North American fish-and-wildlife landscape. The organization coordinates the Management Assistance Team, which provides leadership and organizational development to state agencies. It runs the Relevancy Roadmap, an initiative to engage and serve broader constituencies, and Tell the State Stories, a public-facing campaign that documents how state agencies bring value to daily life. AFWA also operates Project WILD, one of the most widely used conservation-education curricula in the United States, with programs for K-12 educators and community partners. The organization has been an active force on cross-border issues like Fall Flights, a waterfowl-conservation initiative spanning the U.S. and Canada, and on the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation, supporting recruitment, retention, and reactivation of hunting, angling, boating, and recreational shooting sports.

AFWA hosts several major conferences and workshops each year (such as the upcoming Western Association of Fish & Wildlife Agencies Summer Meeting and the 20th North American Caribou Workshop) and is governed by a board representing all U.S. states, Canadian provinces and territories, and key federal wildlife agencies.
