The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) is a global non-profit helping animals and people thrive together. Founded in 1969, IFAW works across seas, oceans, and more than 40 countries to rescue, rehabilitate, and release animals, and to restore and protect their natural habitats. The organization matches fresh thinking with bold action, partnering with local communities, governments, non-governmental organizations, and businesses to pioneer new and innovative ways to help all species flourish.
IFAW’s work is anchored in three interconnected program areas. Animal rescue, rehabilitation, and release efforts — including marine-mammal stranding response on Cape Cod, where the organization has improved release rates for dolphins from one in ten to three in four, and rabies vaccination drives for dogs in disaster-affected regions. Habitat conservation, with major landscape initiatives like the Room to Roam program in Africa, which has secured land for an elephant corridor between habitats and is now working to secure 101 such corridors across the continent. And combating wildlife crime, including efforts to disrupt online trafficking, illegal pet trade, and the international trade in marine wildlife.
Since 2000, IFAW has rescued more than 275,000 animals across six continents and the ocean. Headquartered in Yarmouth, Massachusetts, with offices around the world, IFAW has been a leading voice in international wildlife policy for more than fifty years.
