Ocean Conservancy is a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) organization working globally to secure a healthy ocean and a thriving planet, forever and for everyone. With a headquarters in Washington, D.C. and regional offices around the country, the organization develops and implements solutions to the greatest challenges facing ocean health.
Ocean Conservancy’s work is organized around three program areas: confronting climate change (including protection of the rapidly melting Central Arctic Ocean), sustainable fisheries and place-based protections (including the Arctic and Florida), and trash-free seas — an effort that includes the long-running International Coastal Cleanup and a focus on preventing ghost fishing gear. In 53 years, the organization and its volunteers have removed more than 400 million pounds of plastic and other trash from the ocean. Recent additions include the Wildlife Impact Calculator, which translates peer-reviewed science into the actions individuals can take to reduce plastic’s impact on marine life, and the Protect Where We Play campaign, which mobilizes sports and entertainment figures in support of ocean protection.
Ocean Conservancy’s authoritative presence in Washington, D.C. and its track record of coalition-building make it a leading U.S. voice in international ocean policy.
