Building regenerative economies for the Amazon
Submissions open until April 26, 2024
The Con X Tech Prize: The Amazon is a global competition that seeks cutting-edge science and tech innovations to transform the Amazon’s destructive, extractive economies into modern, regenerative ones. Proposals are especially welcomed from innovators based in the Amazon region.
IUCN-Member Conservation X Labs is seeking solutions across two categories:
- Replacements: Innovations for sustainable alternatives in food, feed, fiber, and materials that leverage the resources of the Amazon.
- Production Replacements: Methods to support the sustainable production of replacement products in the Amazon.
These solutions should protect the integrity of ecosystems, respect Indigenous peoples and local communities as well as their traditional knowledge, and support the fair distribution of the benefits generated from the commercialization of forest products and services.
Selected teams will receive one of twenty (20) seed grants totaling USD 3,500 each to develop their prototypes. These prototypes will then compete for a grand prize of USD 20,000, along with two (2) runner-up prizes of USD 5,000 each.
Additionally, through a comprehensive matchmaking process, individuals and teams have the opportunity to expand their networks, fostering innovation and collaboration among participants and facilitating dynamic partnerships that may not have otherwise been possible. Proposals are open for submission until April 26, 2024, at 11:59 PM EDT.
