The International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA) is a non-profit association, in operation since 1980, dedicated to the study and application of impact assessment. IAIA believes in creating meaningful change by making better, informed decisions that lead to positive outcomes for the environment, nature, and societies across the globe. Its network of active members and partner organizations spans more than 110 countries.
IAIA’s work centers on impact assessment (IA) — a transformative process designed to inform and guide decisions and actions by governments, businesses, or individuals to maximize positive outcomes and minimize negative effects, ultimately fostering sustainable development. IAIA evaluates the impacts of policies, projects, plans, and programs on the environment, society and communities, jobs and the economy, public health, cultures and traditions, equity and inclusion, laws and regulations, and technology. The organization supports this work through training (with more than 5,000 trainees in IAIA-run courses), a resource library housing 40+ years of open-access expertise, a global community of 1,300+ individual and organizational members, news and media, and annual conferences that regularly welcome more than 1,100 attendees from around the world.
IAIA also collaborates with corporate members, affiliates, institutional partners, and event sponsors to expand its global reach and impact. For nearly half a century, IAIA has served as the leading international forum for impact-assessment practitioners, researchers, and policy makers advancing the science and practice of evaluating development choices.
