World Wildlife Fund – US (WWF-US) is the U.S. national organization of the global WWF Network, one of the world’s largest and most experienced conservation organizations. Founded in 1961 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., WWF-US is the second-largest WWF national organization in the world and works in more than 100 countries through the broader WWF Network.
WWF-US’s work focuses on the conservation of species, the protection of habitats (including forests, oceans, freshwater systems, and wildlife), climate change mitigation and adaptation, the sustainable production and consumption of commodities (including beef, soy, palm oil, and pulp/paper), and the elimination of illegal wildlife trade. WWF-US is a leading implementer of corporate sustainability commitments, working with major U.S. companies to eliminate deforestation from their supply chains. The organization’s 100+ year goal of zero loss of natural habitat and zero net greenhouse gas emissions shapes its U.S. and global strategy.
WWF-US is a founding member of the IUCN and has been deeply involved in the development of IUCN’s species, protected area, and policy work since the 1960s. WWF staff hold leadership positions on the IUCN Council, Species Survival Commission, and World Commission on Protected Areas. WWF-US’s combination of scientific depth, global field reach, and corporate engagement capacity makes it one of the most influential U.S. environmental organizations.
